So, let me tell you a little bit about who we are?
We are a pair of techno-geeks. True Blue SciFi Addicted, Computer Hogging, WOW Playing, Fan “Boy/Girl”-ing, Ancient Aliens and Nova watching nerds. We first met in college during a class we took together but lost touch.
Ten years later we met again to find that we had grown up and become two parts of one whole.
Once we found each other, we quickly got married and wanted to start a home for our growing little family. This is where we began to search high and low to find the right place for us. All the while running into trouble with the county and getting crazy misinformation for every direction. We searched for the better part of two years and finally came to the realization that Miami was not for us, even though it was all we had ever known.
Our out-of-the-box life
We ventured out and left Miami in 2013 and life brought us to a rural area near a Ghost Town named Fort Lonesome. A kind of no-mans land between Tampa and Orlando near the Four Corners where Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee and Hardee County meet.
We now live on a 5 acre plot with a little house and plan to turn this little slice of heaven into our homestead and a Permaculture Paradise.
Who this site is for
This site is for the ones who want more out of life. The ones who want to live differently, the ones who want a different life for their family, the ones who want to live courageously, but aren’t sure where to start. You can follow along with our adventures and live vicariously through us or learn with us as you gather up to venture out on your own.
Why we left
We lived in Miami and we were miserable. I mean, sure Miami has pretty great weather 99% of the year but it also has the lowest Quality of Life in America. Its been consistently voted one of the Worst Places to Live, and its one of the Worst Places to Retire. Add to that issues with the county and growing our own food and not being allowed to keep chickens or bees and we knew it was time for us to collect our little family and get going.
How we think
We are mavericks, outsiders, outlanders and geeks (and we are quite proud of being different). The way we think was most eloquently summed up by Author Robert A. Heinlein:
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
We enjoy the Homesteading lifestyle and all the challenges it brings. It offers us the opportunity to try to experience new things and challenges us to go beyond our comfort zone.
