This year our focus has been Kindergarten Materials. Our son although only 4 years old, has proven and re-proven to us to us that he is ready to cover them.
Every night, we read (and re-read) a variety of books. We are still working on our Mensa list but we are also bouncing between Level 3 and Level 5 of Step into Reading Books to help him get into reading on his own.
We have started using Rosetta Stone. Our son was not fully on board until we got the headphones set up and it started to do the voice recognition portion of the class.
Our son seems to have a grasp of Addition and Subtraction and his favorites are currently:
Programming and Robotics
I am having trouble finding age appropriate projects that focus on programing so I am sticking to more building, engineering and robotics items for now.
Arts & Crafts
My current wish list of projects for the coming months are:
- Leaf Painting
- Leaf prints in clay
- Flower & Leaf pressing
- Baking bread
- Making musical instruments
- Finger knitting
- Beeswax clay
Music & Movement
We have started doing Cosmic Kids Yoga and he seems to be very taken to it.
Science & Nature Study
My plan of collecting every Children’s Bee Book I can find is going well, I have added several to the collection:
He also love planting and seeds and being outside.
Our son has also falling in love with putting together models of the human body.
I also plan to add on The Garden as Classroom
Our son has taken to wanting to learn to play chess. We are feeding this obsession with lots of kits and tools:
We are watching Cosmos and How It’s Made as well as lots of Youtube Question/Answer sessions.
For Next Year
I am enamored with the Oak Meadow Curriculum for next year.
