This week we received a Care Package from Abuela Mami, a Miami based Subscription service, that ships you taste of Cuba/Miami on a monthly basis. Having left Miami, going on three years ago, we sometimes miss the little things you can only get at home.
Abuela Mami makes it easy by shipping a hand selected care package of Cuban goodies and nostalgic treats straight to your door.
Cost: $25.95 a month and shipping is Free
When I saw the package in our mailbox, we were all excited to see what was in the box, so we let our son open it up.
Our box contained:
Goya Flan Mix
Choward’s Violet Mints
They also included suggestions:
For the Mojo: Marinate Pork, Poultry, Meat or veggie dish its delicious!
For the Guava Marmalade: Eat with white cheese or cream cheese
For the Choward’s Violet Mints: Popular Amount Cuban Abuelas, Smells and tastes like perfume
We were happy to find the products we know and love from our childhood.
We liked that the box included items that, although not impossible to find, you might forget to get for yourself. The Foodie in me would have liked it if they included a note or recipe about the items, or a theme suggestion to turn it into a meal, but knowing me I will do that anyway!
As for the Ricos Meringue, our son devoured those as soon as he and Dad got the bag open.
And for the rest, we will be making some Mojo Pork this weekend or maybe even a Vaca Frita, which I will marinate in with the Mojo. The Guava will go into my Flan Recipe to make a Flan de Guayaba y Queso and any left overs will be eaten with cream cheese or maybe Empanadas. Then the Beekeeper will be getting a nice Cafecito Cubano con espumita to round out the meal.
Suddenly, I feel like I’m on a episode of Chopped! Now to figure out what to do with that Flan mix to make it fabulous!
